Machining

Burrell front axle in our long bed lathe, for skimming of each tapered stub axle end. Note the two centres on the end of the axle, in order to obtain the correct camber angle of the front wheels.
4 out of 6 re-metaled 08 diesel shunter connecting rods bushes freshly machined, ready for pressing into there respective rods.

A Fowler T3 water pump casting bolted to the lathe faceplate, in order to bore out all of the worn internal surfaces.
A new neck bush, and ram bush are subsequently pressed in.

A set of new bearings for a Maclaren traction engine, with the unusual practice of a semi circular bottom shell, and a square top shell.

This makes the manufacturing process quite complicated, as each bearing is a different size and cannot be made as 2 pairs!

Our new purchase arrived on 22 Feb. - all 10 tons of Swift Lathe, with a gap capacity of 5 feet diameter, and around 7 feet between centres.
